Reducing Risk of Educator Injury in Child Care (IN PERSON)

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: . Working with children often means being physically active. Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) start off as aches and pains and can progressively get worse. They can limit our ability to work at our optimum and perform all the activities that we like and need to carry out while caring for children. Come and learn about musculoskeletal injuries, their signs and symptoms, how you can reduce the risk of educator injuries, discuss possible risk factors for injury, explore ideas for reducing these risks by being aware of our bodies, enabling us to deliver quality child care.
PRESENTER: Gina Vahlas is a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist (CCPE) and a Certified Health and Safety Consultant. She first learned about the risk of injury in child care work when she worked as an ergonomist at UBC. In 2007, she joined WorkSafeBC and together with UBC Child Care Services, developed health and safety information resources for child care educators.
