This is a free 2 part workshop series for educators in early learning & child care settings, hosted by the West Vancouver School District. Refreshments are included for all 3:30-5:30 sessions and dinner provided for all 6:30-8:30 sessions. Please note that session 2 and 3 offer two choices for times to attend to best accommodate all schedules.
Session 1 BC Early Learning Framework: It Starts with Listening
Date: Saturday April 27th
time: 9:30-1:30pm (lunch is included)
Location: The Clubhouse @ Gleneagle Golf Course (6190 Marine Drive, West Vancouver)
“Listening has always been central to working with young children, their families, our colleagues, and ourselves- but what is the Pedagogy of Listening, why is it so important in our work, and what does it mean for our day-to-day work as Educators and Caregivers? Participants are urged to come dressed for the weather, as part of our time together will be outdoors!”
Session 2 Inclusive Practice & the Images We Hold
Date: Tuesday May 7th
Time: 3:30-5:30 OR 6:30-8:30 (please note you only need to attend one of the time options)”
Location: Inglewood Learning Center (1735 Inglewood Ave, West Van)
“Building on the first session, this time together will be an opportunity to deepen understanding of the vision and guiding principles in the BC ELF and how they can intersect with the Living Inquiries and Core Competencies. This exploration will focus on the ‘images’ we hold (of children, families, colleagues, self), the pedagogy of listening, and how these can shape the inclusivity of our daily practice.”
Session 3 Noticing What We Pay Attention To- and Why
Date: Thursday June 6th
Time: 3:30-5:30 OR 6:30-8:30 (please note you only need to attend one of the time options)”
Location: Inglewood Learning Center (1735 Inglewood Ave, West Van)
“The BC ELF invites us to explore our own filters and biases by using practices like listening, reflecting, dialoguing, and narrating. Building on earlier topics (listening, inclusive practice), participants will have the opportunity to work with critical reflection resources- and contemplate how these can support them in documenting and sharing children’s experiences and their own professional choices (aka pedagogical narrations).
